Jackson State is calling on all Tiger faithful to “white-out” Memorial Stadium this weekend for its match-up with Southern University. In years past, this would have been a critical match-up in the race for the SWAC football crown. But this year, its just plain old Southern-Jackson State. If the question is who needs the win [...]

Here’s is this week’s Sheridan Broadcast Network Black College Football Poll. Of course I have gripes with it, as there’s no way the Southern Jaguars and Grambling should be above Prairie View A&M, the only undefeated team in the SWAC. Further, why is Delaware State even in the rankings? Albany State, Virginia Union, and several [...]

Xavier University (La.) captured three tennis titles over the weekend at the National HBCU Tennis Championships in Atlanta. Senior Yuliem Dominquez won the women’s B-flight singles championship with a three-hour, 6-7 (7-3), 6-3, 6-3 win over Florida A&M’s Kathline Durden. It wasn’t as if the Florida A&M University’s 28-21 win over the Tennessee State University Tigers in the Atlanta Classic was something new; it was the seventh consecutive victory for the Rattlers over the Tigers. Most people know him as James Evans, or somebody’s father in numerous movies and sitcoms, but actor John Amos was a journalist on Wednesday afternoon, interviewing members of the Lincoln University (Pa.) athletic department for a piece to be broadcast next week on the Urban Radio Network. Since jokes about J.J. Evans and Soul Glo [...]

Nah, let me take that one back. It could just be that the Southwestern Athletic Conference is so talented, its member schools so loaded on athletic and coaching talent, that they just beat up on each other and leave the standings black-eyed and bruised. Or, it could just be that Prairie View A&M is going [...]

I’m starting a new day job, as blogging as yet to sustain a mortgage and gas. So while I’m getting my act together at my new place of employment, here’s five things you need to know about Black College Sports. 5. Florida A&M and Hampton are going to be in the top three this season [...]

Here are the players of the week from the CIAA, SIAC and SWAC. I would’ve listed the recent MEAC awards, but a brother shouldn’t have to search so hard for what the conference should have front and center on it’s webpage. If anyone has access to this week’s list, please feel free to post it [...]
