Just got word from the CIAA that the 2008 Pioneer Bowl has been suspended, and will resume in 2009. Details have not been released, other than this statement from the participating conferences. PIONEER BOWL SUSPENDED FOR 2008 Tucker, GA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) have suspended [...]

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. More than 57 percent of people who responded to the poll voted in favor of the MEAC as the best conference for black college football. To be honest, I would’ve guessed that the SWAC would’ve won this thing overwhelmingly, but it shows that the MEAC might have a little more swag [...]

Great article on the costs associated with Winston-Salem State University’s move to Division I-AA. Over the course of three years, the deficit is mounting for the Ram athletic program and the dividends have yet to show in the fields of play. We all know that there are benefits and consequences with a move like this. [...]

We’ve seen this before, and we’ll likely see it again. Bad calls in black college football games. It was a significant issue last season, and it came up again in last weekend’s nail-biter between Jackson State and Fort Mississippi Valley State. You can suspend officials until the blind mice begin to see, but will there [...]

A few weeks ago, I wrote a commentary on Fisk University athletics joining the NAIA just months after leaving NCAA Division III competition. I thought it would be a worthwhile move, but questioned some of the financial prospects behind the decision. Fortunately for us, the university kindly responded to some of the listed concerns. Written [...]

There’s nothing funny about the Florida A&M Rattlers’ upcoming home game against the Morgan State University Bears. Both teams will be vying for a shot at the MEAC football championship, and it will be a clash of a potent Rattler offense against a stifling Bear defense. Still, this game is pretty funny.

Now, before everyone gets riled up and upset, I’m not trashing the legacy of these teams. I’m sure every team in black college football prepares and tries hard to execute. But the truth of the matter is that fans have expectations, and its only fair to call out those teams that have underachieved this season. [...]

The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore women’s bowling squad is the number one ranked team in the country, according to the National Ten Pins Coaches Association. The Lady Hawks received 10 of a possible 20 first place votes, and welcome back all-Americans Kristina Frahm and Maria Rodriguez to lead this year’s campaign.

Just when you thought it was safe to rely on the Sheridan Black College Football Poll, the voters go and screw it up one mo’ time. This week, there’s no argument about rankings 1 through 3, but you start hitting some bumps in the road beyond those. Here are the numbers. 1. Tuskegee Golden Tigers [...]

If you measured him against his big money sport counter part Donald Hill-Eley, you would get the impression that Morgan State University doesn’t measure at all when it comes to athletic success. Hill-Eley received a contract extension earlier this year, despite having only two winning seasons in six years. Well, recruiting some big-time athletes and [...]
