Fred Farrier Out As Kentucky State Football Coach

Kentucky State University has fired head football coach Fred Farrier, a dismissal that was confirmed by the coach in a telephone interview with the State Journal’s Jonathan Hines. Given Farrier’s 3-8 record over the last two years, the average black college football fan likely wouldn’t take issue with the firing.
But according to Farrier, he has no clue as to why he was fired.
“It was a shock,” he said. “It was definitely not something I saw coming. I thought we had a great opportunity for a good season in 2009.”
KSU officials claimed that they would not give comment on personnel issues, which indicates either one of two things. Farrier was dismissed for something more than too many losses, or that KSU doesn’t have the savviest spokespersons in the world.
It would be too easy for someone to step up and say, “Coach Farrier served the university well, but we felt there was more room for success and decided to move in a different direction.” No one would’ve asked any questions had the school gone that route.
Instead, uttering the words “personnel issues” indicates something much juicier; a story that requires stones being turned and questions being asked.
The shame of it is that football season is less than two months away, so unless KSU administration had a new coach in mind before they fired the old coach, which is among those juicy headlines I just referred to, their search to improve on 3-8 over the last two years stands to get just a little bit more difficult.
