Pauline Banks Headed to Texas Southern

Pauline Banks, one of the most successful track and field coaches in Division I in recent years, has resigned her position at Jackson State University to take over the Texas Southern women’s program.

Banks and her teams were a huge part of the athletic department winning three consecutive SWAC Commissioner’s Cups, given to the institution with the most athletic success across all programs. Under Banks, the Lady Tigers won back-to-back SWAC outdoor track and field championships (2008, 2009) and the 2008 indoor title. She was SWAC coach of the year in 2008 and 2009.

Banks became the first female coach at Jackson State to win an outright SWAC championship since Sadie Magee won the 1985 women’s basketball tournament.

Banks was already attracting talent out of Texas and Missouri, and being stationed in Texas will only expand her appeal to high school stars out of the Bible Belt.
