Edward Waters Implements Strict Confidentiality Requirements

As if Edward Waters College was not in enough drama concerning its financial and academic procedures, the institution has recently implemented a strict employee confidentiality agreement, which if breached, could cost the offender $5,000 per day.

The Edward Waters agreement, revised this month, is mandatory and classifies all on-campus material as confidential data. That includes employee records, policy documents and even in-class material unless otherwise approved for release.

Faculty, staff and administrators are all included, and any violations can be met with a daily $5,000 fine and additional legal action.

EWC may believe that this kind of agreement protects it from fiscal and managerial mishaps being made available for public scrutiny, but unfortunately, when you put out the message of “don’t tell our business,” you create a cynical culture of the institution having a wealth of business worthy of hiding. And worthy of exposure.
