Hampton Releases 2010 Football Schedule

Hampton has released its football schedule for 2010, and while most wouldn’t call for great expectations, they certainly are working towards one day becoming a mid-major household name.

But that day won’t come in 2010.

11/20/2010 * Morgan State Baltimore, MD TBA
At issue is Hampton’s early and late season games against Central Michigan and Old Dominion. Even with added talent in Tennessee transfer Nu’Keese Richardson, a second year under head coach Donovan Rose, is there any indication that the Pirates can take either of these two games? Not likely.
The good news is that they will have momentum early in the season, with the Battle for the Real HU, a home game against North Carolina A&T, and winnable road games against Delaware State and North Carolina Central. But the ship begins to sink two weeks prior to the Homecoming ODU matchup; the Battle of the Bay and South Carolina State back-to-back could mean a disastrous three-game losing streak.
Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M and Morgan State round out the rest of the schedule, and an ambitious observer would peg the Pirates as winners of one out of the three. That puts Hampton with four wins on the season, which may be aggressively negative given that they recruit very well, but not so negative given their chronic underachievement over the past three seasons.

  1. I am shocked that ODU made it on the schedule. Being as though ODU will have only 1 year of football experience. It was published that ODU and NSU which would be much like a Morgan vs. Towson Rivalry wouldnt take place until sometime after 2012, as the Monarchs wouldn’t be able to compete with the Spartans. It is one of the reason ODU was so successful during their first year last year, their schedule was purposely watered down and hand picked. Not sure how to read into this especially when Hampton has really been a powerhouse in Black college football for many years , up until Joe Taylor’s exodus. They made it abundantly clear that athletically they couldn’t compete with the average at best Spartans, now they are ready for Hampton…Well I bet they wouldnt have pulled it on Joe Taylors watch…lol….
