Jackson State Faculty Member Shot in On-Campus Robbery
Andrea Michalkova Scott, a research scientist at Jackson State University, was shot twice in the head in the parking lot of the John A. Peoples Science Center on Monday night in a robbery attempt. While Scott sustained a shattered jaw and potential loss of hearing in her left ear, she expected to make a full recovery.
At the hospital, she told him two, possibly three, men approached her and demanded her purse as she left the building to get to her car. She resisted, so one man hit her repeatedly with a gun, Bill Scott said.
Once she was on the ground, the man rifled through her purse, found only $5 and got mad and shot her, Bill Scott said.
Andrea Scott was no match for her attacker at 5-foot-4 and about 95 pounds, her husband said. She told him it was so dark in the parking lot that she could not see the faces of the attackers.
JSU President Ronald Mason Jr. discusses the shooting.
