Tennessee State Still in Contention for Ohio Valley Basketball Tournament Berth

John Cooper has had games postponed by leaky ceilings, thrown the bulk of his scoring off his Tennessee State men’s basketball team for disciplinary reasons, and heads into the final days of conference play with a 5-11 overall record to show for it all.

But in spite of everything, Cooper and the Tigers, winners of four straight games since dismissing a third of the team, are on the verge of making the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

“This team has found ways to win, to come together for a common purpose,” Cooper said. “You look at this group and we don’t knock your socks off. We don’t ooze with athleticism.”

Despite the odds, Cooper is even more determined to turn this program around.

“I was crazy enough to think I could win here,” Cooper said. “I still believe we can win here.”
