Texas Southern to Host Google Apps CIO Road Trip
With the personal technology industry experiencing extraordinary levels of interest and impact in society, various industries have growing interest in utilizing and marketing these technologies to reach new customers. And in true Google fashion, the search conglomerate is hitting the road to pitch these services to IT and CIOs around the country, and will be making a stop at Texas Southern University for Tiger students and faculty to demonstrate the functionality of the school’s Google Apps with the institutional infrastructure.
Beginning in April, the Google Apps Education team will travel to universities across the southern and eastern U.S. to meet with regional CIOs and IT directors in higher education. We’ll be hosting these events with some great universities using Google Apps, including Hofstra, Columbus State University, the University of South Florida, Texas Southern University and the University of Virginia.
Google is a company with a strong foundation in corporate responsibility. The hope is that they will emerge from their TSU stop with a sense of pride in how HBCUs utilize the technology to enhance the educational experience, and will be driven to involve more HBCUs.
And if not that, at least driven to donate a billion dollars to the black college news blog that posted about their road trip.

As a student at an HBCU, namely Texas Southern University in Houston, TX, I think it is a wonderful idea that companies are gaining more interest in learning what HBCU’s thoughts and opinions are on the subject of technology. As technology advances, the gap between HBCUs and larger universities have gotten smaller. Although I am very excited that people are beginning to take notice of HBCU’s, I am looking forward to a time where i isn’t such a huge deal, just accepted as normal. I am a broadcast journalism major at TSU and technology is a very large part of our curriculum.
