West Virginia State Sued for Discrimination, Breach of Contract

A former employee of West Virginia State University has filed a lawsuit in circuit court, citing breach of contract, age and racial discrimination against the institution.

Melvin Poore filed suit against West Virginia State University on February 16 in Kanawha Circuit Court. In his seven-count complaint, Poore, 51, alleges WVSU first used a promotion to appease his claims of age and race discrimination only to later fire him for pressing the complaints with authorities when State failed to honor its agreement.

The suit alleges repeated attempts by Poore to file complaints against the university, but is vague concerning dates, signed paperwork, and acknowledged receipt of his claims.
