Alabama State Sweeps SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships
Alabama State University swept the men’s and women’s SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships yesterday, with the Lady Hornets capturing their second-consecutive title and sixth in the last ten years.
Shexnieavia Bryant of Alabama State was the Women’s Outstanding Field Performer. She scored 20 points with a pair of first-place finishes in the shot put (12.96m/42-06.25ft ) and weight throw (SWAC record 17.69m/ 58-00.50 feet).
Raheema Hodges of Alabama State earned Women’s Outstanding Field Performer Honors, scoring 32.5 points with first place finishes in the mile run, 3000 meter and 5000 meter runs, and helping the Hornets to a first-place finish in the distance medley relay.
Micah McCulloch of Southern was the Men’s Outstanding Field Performer, scoring 18 points with three third-place finishes (high jump, long jump, triple jump).
Alabama State’s Robert Gunn was the Men’s Outstanding Track Performer, scoring 30.5 points. Gunn had a first place finish in the 3000 meter run and helped the Hornets to the first place finish in the distance medley relay while also finishing in second in the mile run, third in the 5000 meter run, and fifth in the 800 meter run.
