Assault Case Against Savannah State Football Players Sent to Grand Jury

A grand jury will decide if five former Savannah State University football players will be indicted on charges of aggravated assault stemming from a Feb 5. campus incident.

Chatham County Recorder’s Court Judge Tammy Stokes ruled the defendants “acted in concert in a violent way” when they attacked Carl Gee and Karl Arila.

Gee suffered a compressed skull that required a remolding of his skull from a blow that knocked him to the ground, Stokes said.

Arila suffered a broken arm.

Defendants Edward Ndem; Juvaro Goodman, Jevontae Jefferson, Patrick Thomas and Rashard Russell are charged with aggravated assault.

All but Russell also are charged with aggravated battery.
