Langston Marching Band Moves Beyond Controversy

The Langston University Marching Band garnered headlines in January when the band director Albert Jackson was placed on administrative leave after allegedly misappropriating funds reserved for band program scholarships. But members of the band are adjusting to a new director, and excited about the future.

Reginald King, the band’s head drum major and a junior accounting major from Dallas, Texas, said that the recent changes have been a reality check for people, but it hasn’t stopped the band a bit.

“The job is still going to get done whether it’s two people or 200 people there,” King said. “So the fact that one person is missing isn’t going to stop the whole band.”

One person may not stop the whole band, but if these allegations have any merit, one person could very well have stop some band members from having funds available for school.
