Mississippi Valley State Headed to Mock Trial National Championships

The Mississippi Valley State University Mock Trail team is headed to its first appearance in the American Mock Trial Association National Championships in school history, after posting a 6-2 record and top-eight finish in its Southeastern regional championships last month.

“The students have been dedicated to achieving this goal from the very beginning. It’s been their persistence, hard work, and determination that has made this year’s season such a success,” said Larry Chappell, head coach of the trial team and political science professor at Valley.

Sunday, MVSU’s team was crowned as one of the tournament’s Southeastern Regional Championship Qualifiers. The group posted a 6-2 record, beating schools such as Auburn University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Kennesaw State University.

MVSU will be the only HBCU representing the Southeastern region in the national championships.
