Tim and Daphne Reid, Virginia State Partner for Filmmaking Institute

Renowned actors and philanthropists Tim and Daphne Maxwell Reid are partnering with Virginia State University to  present the Legacy Media Institute, a month-long filmmaking program exposing VSU students to the industry best practices. From the release:

“This program will provide VSU students with specialized skills, training and experience in mass media guided by top professionals,” said Dr. Ishmail Conway, chair of VSU’s department of mass communications. He said the goal of the partnership is to create a cadre of well-trained, media savvy students who will transfer their skills to media ventures that will benefit the university and community. “This project will build a long overdue linkage between Virginia State and New Millennium Studios and serve as an invaluable resource to our students and community.”

The LMI is a selective, nonprofit organization founded by NMS co-founders and award-winning actors and producers Tim and Daphne Maxwell Reid. Throughout the summer, LMI students will work closely with local and national filmmakers. The program includes seminars and workshops and culminates in students’ creation of a documentary, which will be featured in the upcoming Legacy Film Festival, slated for fall 2011.
