You’re absolutely correct. The stereotypes placed on students from these institutions are not fair or always accurate and I certainly don’t condone the double standards. I am considering doing a part two to this article and I will definitely delve deeper on the issue. Thank you for the constructive feedback!

Great article! I am a proud alum of Norfolk State University, if you haven't already read the book "Our Kind of People" by Lawrence Otis Graham, it speaks about this exact thing, but not only as it applies to colleges and universities but black culture as a whole.

I really see a double standard, Yes I am a proud graduate of Hampton University, and on several occasiontions i have been involved in good conversation with people in general and once I mention that I am a Hampton grad, the moods have shifted to "oh you think you are all of that"..... so lets be fair often we are attacked simply because of this "Elite Class" I have been placed in, this attitude however goes far beyond the Institution of Higher Learning we choose to attend. We find it in the Shade of our Skin, texture of our Hair, and where we are from, eastside vs westside. We as a race need to do a whole lot of soul searching.....

Great article! I am a proud alumnus of the North Carolina A&T and I have encountered the elitist attitude on several occasions from colleagues. Some do it on purpose and others do it without realizing but either way it is still a problem. I look forward to reading more from you sir!

Good article, young man. I am an alumni of Jackson State University and an instructor at Tennessee State University. My goal was to teach at an HBCU. I wish you Blessings in your endeavors. You are off to a good start!

Great article that brings to the light the wholeness of Whitney Houston! We all must look at all dimensions of a person. The bad is so easy to see and remember. The good, humble, impactful actions, and love she gave seem to take a back seat to her personal issues. Seeing the total person is hard but needs to be the standard. This article clearly took the time to highlight what society forgot about the angle, Whitney Houston.

Mr. Wiggins: This is a great article in support of HBCUs! I am a Fisk University student and soon-to-be graduate. A HBCU molded me and provided the support I will need to tackle the problems of our society and contribute my help and ideas to the world. A War on Education, or maybe better titled a War to Save Education in America, is a worthy cause. I wish as much vigor that goes into the War on Drugs can be diverted to efforts to fortify our education system, Pre-K-12 and all our post-secondary institutions, to empower students in this increasingly globalized world. The world is changing fast, and this change calls for a serious look at current practices to help American students compete on a global scale. . This isn't America's world, its our world. Let's meet our counterparts. Think global, not local.

Fisk will turn around. The road to financial stability and increase flow of student recruitment and retention will improve and is on a steady, albeit slow, rise. By all measures, Fisk is still a master at producing capable and exceptional graduates. Once the former gets better, Fisk will be able to shake the image of instability and uncertainty. Fisk has a fighting spirit of that of a Bulldog (our school mascot). Being a current student and graduating senior in May, I am confident that my institution will persevere and prevail. Fisk4Ever, Est. 1866
