Fashion Advice by Mia and Maki: Shabby Chic: Yes! Celebs Do it Too!

Fashion experts, MBAs and Florida A&M University alumni Mia and Maki offer their unique perspectives on trends, style tips and personal branding for the Digest’s fashion section. You can read their work regularly at Mia and Maki’s blog.

I went to see a fantastic play on Tuesday evening called By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, starring the lovely, talented and gorgeous Sanaa Lathan. She even introduced herself, signed autographs and posed for pictures after the show. She asked that we not post her photos online, so I won’t, but if you’re reading this Sanaa, you looked amazing in the pictures!

In the crowd was another fashionably famous face, Tika Sumpter, who we have mentioned on the blog in a previous post with Selita Ebanks for her fiercely fab style. Last night was one of the first very warm evenings in NYC, with a high of 80 degrees, and Tika looked AMAZING and ready to beat the heat in killer style.

Tika Sumpter in Thakoon for Target

What I loved most about her look was that I recognized her dress from the Thakoon for Target Collection from a year or so back. The dress was priced around $35-$40, and as Tika shows, with minimal makeup and accessories, you can DEFINITELY take a dress from Target and make it look like a cool million. Here’s a similar pair of wedges on Piperlime, a Fedora from Urban Outfitters, and a similar satchel by Marc by Marc Jacobs.

We showed another example of Target’s shabby chic designs in a previous post on my dress by Rodarte for Target. Target has re-launched their Go International collection, so be sure to check it out and see what dresses from previous collections they bring out, and send in pics of your Target “good-buys”!
