North Carolina Central University alumnus Jason Jowers and Claflin University student Keiwon Brown will both be Congressional guests in attendance at tonight’s State of the Union address at the US Capital. Jowers will attend at the invitation of NCCU alum and US Rep. G.K. Butterfield, while Brown will attend at the invitation of US Senator Jim DeMint.

Brown was recently profiled by Claflin school officials.

Brown is an active member on campus. He is president of the student ambassadors for the Black Executive Exchange Program, a member of the leadership organization Sigma Alpha Pi and the National Society of Black Engineers. Brown has also worked in the Office of Career Development since his arrival at the university.

He recently joined the U.S. Army ROTC program. Upon graduation, Brown will be commissioned as a second lieutenant. His dream goal is to design programs for top firms as an information technology specialist.

Jowers was last year named the Durham Teacher of the Year and accepted an assistant principal position at a nearby high school. According to a recent interview with his alma mater, he looks forward to the opportunity to hear the Commander-in-Chief.

“I want to take full advantage of this opportunity to talk with Congressman Butterfield,” said Jowers. “I want to hear about his views on public education and discuss the upcoming election.” He is also excited to hear Obama speak in person. “I’m bringing my camera,” said Jowers. “ I know there will be so much that I’ll want to capture.”
